Building a Custom PTO Policy Engine Between ADP Lyric and Symplr for a Medical Organization

Medical

RJ Reliance is engineering a custom PTO policy integration to move workforce data between ADP Lyric and Symplr for a medical organization.

The situation

A medical organization operates across two platforms central to its workforce management: ADP Lyric for HCM and Symplr for workforce scheduling and compliance. The two systems had no reliable mechanism to keep PTO policy data in sync, creating a gap that placed administrative burden on HR and payroll staff and introduced risk of policy inconsistencies affecting employees.

The client needed a durable, rules-aware integration capable of handling the specific logic of their PTO policies — not a generic data feed, but an engine that could interpret and translate policy rules as data moved between the two platforms.

How we approached it

RJ Reliance engaged the client in April 2026 to scope and build a custom integration between ADP Lyric and Symplr. The work sits within our integrations practice and focuses on integration engineering: designing the data flows, mapping policy logic, and building the middleware layer that will govern how PTO data passes between the two systems.

Rather than fitting the client's policies into a pre-built connector, we are constructing a policy engine that encodes the client's specific PTO rules. This approach ensures the integration reflects actual business requirements and reduces the risk of data loss or misinterpretation at the system boundary.

Throughout the engagement, we are working closely with the client's HR, payroll, and IT stakeholders to validate rule logic before it is coded and to confirm that the integration handles edge cases — such as accrual overrides or role-based policy variants — that a generic integration would likely miss.

The outcome

The engagement is ongoing as of the project's April 2026 kickoff, and a go-live date has not yet been established. The immediate deliverable in progress is a tested, production-ready custom PTO policy engine that automates the flow of leave data between ADP Lyric and Symplr.

When complete, the integration is expected to eliminate the manual reconciliation currently required between the two platforms, reduce the administrative overhead carried by HR and payroll teams, and provide employees with consistent PTO information regardless of which system surfaces it.

This engagement reflects RJ Reliance's broader approach to integration work in healthcare settings: building to the client's policy logic first, and treating the technical connection as the means rather than the end.
